In a spectacular display of community spirit and historical homage, the Kiwanis Club of St. Marys stole the spotlight at this year’s St. Marys Summerfest Parade with their captivating canal boat float and nature-themed procession. The parade, held on a sunlit Saturday afternoon, witnessed the small town of St. Marys come alive with cheers and applause as the Kiwanis Club’s creative endeavors unfurled.
At the heart of their showcase was the remarkable canal boat float, a testament to St. Marys’ deep-rooted historical connection to the Miami and Erie Canal. This eye-catching creation sailed gracefully through the parade route, its presence serving as a living tribute to the town’s rich heritage. The canal boat float was made possible through the generous support of the Miami and Erie Canal Corridor Association, which also donated $200.00 for the purchase of candy and parade favors, ensuring that every parade-goer had an unforgettable experience.
Accompanying this impressive display was the Walk with Nature Fall Festival-themed float, a collaborative effort that united the Kiwanis Club, Heritage Trails Park District, St. Marys City Schools, and dedicated City of St. Marys employees. This collaborative venture underscored the community’s commitment to fostering engaging and educational events that celebrated the area’s natural beauty. The Walk with Nature Fall Festival, hosted in conjunction with Heritage Trails Park District, promises a day filled with interactive experiences, nature walks, educational exhibits, and crafters, reinforcing the town’s strong bonds and commitment to environmental appreciation.
