When something represents the heart of community service, it’s worth keeping in good shape — even if that means picking up a paintbrush yourself.
That’s exactly what happened this week at the St. Marys Eagles Aerie #767, where the wooden roadside sign listing local service club meeting times had seen better days. Faded by sun and chipped by time, the sign — located at the corner of N. Spruce Street and E. Spring Street — displays the Kiwanis meeting (Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.) and Rotary meeting (Wednesdays at 11:45 a.m.).

Enter the president of the St. Marys Kiwanis Club, Randy Henkener.
Instead of outsourcing the job, he rolled up his sleeves and took it on himself — sanding, repainting, and restoring the sign to a clean, legible, and eye-catching state.
“This sign isn’t just wood and paint — it’s a symbol of how our clubs stay active and connected in the community,” said the Kiwanis president. “If people see it looking sharp, maybe they’ll be inspired to stop by a meeting and get involved.”
A simple act of maintenance? Sure. But also a great reminder that real leadership shows up wherever it’s needed.
Well done, and thank you for keeping community pride on display!
